This winter, residents of all ages will be welcome to come into The Wakes, to stay warm and enjoy hot food and drinks in comfortable surroundings as part of this new initiative.  Residents are welcome to drop in each Friday in anytime between 2pm and 5pm (except 30 December).

There will be newspapers, magazines, quiz books, board games to keep you occupied and a friendly face if you want to get valuable advice on the cost-of-living support. There is free Wi-Fi and facilities to charge laptops and mobiles.

The Wakes is a fully accessible building, with comfortable seating – which is perfect for agile working with access free Wi-Fi!  There is also something for the children as we have a play area suitable for under 8s.  If you are a bookworm, Oakengates library is less than a minute away, so why not join the library if you haven’t already and bring a book (or two) with you!

Hot meals and refreshments will be provided by Hospitality Staff from our Community Cafe The Outpost Café Bar which is located within The Wakes building.

We look forward to welcoming residents to The Wakes.

About Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cost of Living Grant

Telford & Wrekin Council is the local authority for the Telford and Wrekin borough in

Shropshire. It is an award-winning co-operative council and its approach is informed

by the views and voices of residents, communities, and partners.

Its Cost of Living Grant was set aside in 2022 in recognition that the rising cost of

living is increasing financial pressures on many households and that this is likely to

worsen during the colder months. Many will have to choose between heating and

eating. The grant is to help provide welcoming warm places for residents to visit,

where they can have something to eat and take part in social activities, helping to

bring communities together at this difficult time.

Residents who are worried about the cost of living and rise of energy bills can find useful information on Telford and Borough Wrekin Council website.
