Council Meetings
The council meets regularly every month with the exception of August. Council meetings recommence from September 2011.
Full Council:- meetings are held on the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month.
The Tuesday meeting commences at 6.45pm with a 15 minute public session.
The Monday meeting commences at 7.00pm
The Social and Events committee:- meets on the second Monday of each month commencing at 7.00pm
Planning and Regeneration Working Group:- meets on an as required basis. The group is currently meeting during the third week in the month.
Grants Committee:- meets twice a year, March and September
Public Relations Working Group:- meet as and when required.
Please read the following if you are considering coming along to a Council meeting.
Standing Orders state – “Meetings”
A. Meetings shall be open to the public unless their presence is prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted or for other special reasons. The public’s exclusion from part or all of a meeting shall be by a resolution which shall give reasons for the public’s exclusion.
B. Subject to A. above, members of the public are permitted to make representations, answer questions and give evidence in respect of any item of business included in the agenda.
C. The period of time which is at the Chairman’s discretion shall not normally exceed 15-20 minutes.
D. Subject to C. above, each member of the public is entitled to speak once only in respect of business itemised on the Agenda and shall not speak for more than 3 minutes.
E. In accordance with D. above, a question asked by a member of the public during participation session at a meeting and shall not require a response or debate.
F. In accordance with E. above, the Chairman may direct that a response to a question posed by a member of the public be referred to a Councillor for an oral response or to an employee for a written or oral response.
G. A record of a public participation session at a meeting shall be included in the minutes of that meeting.
H. A person shall raise their hand when requesting to speak and may remain seated when speaking. The Chairman may at any time request an individual to be standing when speaking (except if a disability or specific discomfort)
I. Any person speaking at a meeting shall address their comments to the Chairman.
J. Only one person is permitted to speak at a time. If more than one person wishes to speak, the Chairman shall direct the order of speaking.
K. Photographing, recording, broadcasting or transmitting the proceedings of a meeting by any means is not permitted without the Council’s prior (written) consent.
L. In accordance with K. above, the press shall be provided with reasonable facilities for the taking of their report of all or part of a meeting at which they are entitled to be present.
